Seto pottery, known as Seto-yaki, is one of Japan’s six Ancient Kilns. Seto was the first region in Japan to produce high-fired, glazed ceramics, heavily influenced by Chinese and Korean techniques. Throughout history, the region set itself apart by embracing a wide variety of glazes, which combined with their plentiful reserves of high quality clay allowed the region to remain a leading ceramic producer over centuries.
These are traditional matcha bowls crafted with a the traditional Seto style — high fired with smooth and beautiful glazes. The Shiro (White) color is a very pure, uniform cotton white. The Black (Kuro) color is multi-hued with a rent tint. Specially designed with a wide, flat bottom that allows for effective whisking. They are hand made by artisans in Japan.
